“The quantified self” is what it is called. The capturing of data like blood pressure, steps, oxygen content even, gps location from our phone, watches and other “wearables.” But what will we do with this data? Some elite athletes argue that the data helps them understand how to PR – to hit personal records. Masimo brought in an elite cyclist to CES to show off their mobile personal use oximeter.
Many are skeptical but there is no question that the data is being captured, and quickly filling up even our 128Gig iphones. Many post their performances on social networks and create community but will it make us healthier?
Or, will it simply be tech for tech sake?
